Hollywood's Big Studios Evolve with "Ultra Violet"

No “Ultra Violet” is not the latest big studio action movie, but rather the latest big studio move to get with the times. As I’ve argued many times on the Double Down Film Show and in previous posts on this blog, Hollywood needs to give up their desperate struggle to cling to an old business model of screening “windows” and DVD sales.

A decade ago the music business tried the same desperate measure with disastrous long-term consequences for their bottom line.  Well, whether it was all of my public rants on the subject (doubtful) or the cautionary tale of the music business (more likely), it looks like Hollywood is finally waking up and embracing evolution with a new business model that takes on the issues of the digital age in a way that is both consumer-friendly and in a way that I believe will ultimately be  just as, if not more profitable than the decades old model that’s been in place thusfar.

If you’re not down with the get-down – listen below to this NPR story on the new concept of “Ultra Violet”.
